![]() When she became pregnant, Senzangakhona at first denied the child, then contemptuously named the infant Shaka (“Beetle”). Senzangakhona had a dalliance with a woman named Nandi, who was a daughter of the chief of a neighboring tribe, the Elangeni. They had only recently entered what is now South Africa.
